Paving North of the County Line
Asphalt paving in Rosamond puts us across the county line. Rosamond is an unincorporated community in Kern County, north of Lancaster near the Los Angeles County border, and Kern County rules apply here, not Los Angeles County's. Rosamond had 20,961 residents and 7,608 housing units at the 2020 census, spread across about 52 square miles, and many residents work at Edwards Air Force Base or commute to Lancaster, Palmdale and Los Angeles.
A railroad town
Rosamond was established in 1877 as a townsite owned by the Southern Pacific Railroad and named for the daughter of a railroad official. Early industries were mining and cattle. Muroc Army Air Field, later renamed Edwards Air Force Base, was established about 20 miles away in 1933. Today the community is largely a bedroom community, with a mix of older homes near the original town and newer tracts on its edges.
Kern County road permits
Kern County requires a permit for all work performed in the county right-of-way, issued by the Public Works Permits Division, and asks that the permit office be notified 48 hours before work starts. If your project includes a new or widened approach where your driveway meets a county road, we include that permit and notice in the schedule.
What we pave in Rosamond
- Tract driveway replacements and extensions
- Gravel drives on larger lots west and south of town
- RV and trailer pads, common with military and commuter households
- Small business and church lots along the main roads
- Sealcoating, crack filling and striping
Wind country
Rosamond sits at about 2,516 feet, near the Tehachapi Wind Resource Area, the largest wind resource area in California. Wind and blowing sand are routine. We pick calm days for sealcoating, clean surfaces before paving, and make sure edges are backfilled so wind cannot undercut them.
Military households and moves
With many residents tied to Edwards Air Force Base, homes in Rosamond change hands or tenants often. A driveway in good repair helps when a home goes on the market or between tenants. We can do a quick repair-and-seal before a listing, or a full replacement with a written scope you can share with a buyer or property manager.
Older homes near the original town
Homes near Rosamond's original townsite are older than the tracts on the edges, and their driveways often have thin asphalt on little or no base. When those crack, patching rarely holds. A replacement with a compacted base and 2 to 3 inches of asphalt, the residential section HomeGuide describes, is the lasting fix.
Owners and renters
About 67.7 percent of Rosamond's occupied homes are owner-occupied. For rentals we can price a repair-and-seal plan alongside replacement. Call (661) 466-4552 or

Rosamond Questions
Do Los Angeles County permits apply in Rosamond?
No. Rosamond is in Kern County, and Kern County Public Works issues permits for work in its right-of-way.
Can you build an RV pad next to my driveway?
Yes. We build it to a heavier section with a deeper base so leveling jacks and tires do not sink in on hot days.
How often should I seal in Rosamond?
Every few years, when the surface turns gray. Sun and blowing sand wear the coat faster than in milder climates.
Can you do driveway work before I list my house?
Yes. A repair-and-seal can be done in a day or two and makes an older driveway look cared for.
Do you pave in the newer tracts on the edge of town?
Yes, usually extensions, RV pads and sealcoating rather than full replacements.
How far is Rosamond from your usual work area?
Rosamond is just north of Lancaster, so it is a regular stop for us. We give the same free on-site estimate as in Palmdale.
Do HOAs in Rosamond's newer tracts limit driveway work?
Some do. If your home is in an HOA, check its rules and get approval before we schedule; we can give you a written scope to submit.
Can you pave a gravel drive on a larger Rosamond lot?
Yes. We regrade the existing rock, add aggregate where it is thin, and pave with a crown so water and blown sand shed off the sides.
